love / an uberfine giveaway
So Valentine's Day will arrive at the end of the week and florists worldwide will have their busiest and most profitable day of the year. Hearts will overflow - or be broken.
Personally, this day on the calendar is just like any other. The husband and I have been together for ten years, married for eight of them. I could probably count on both hands the amount of times he has bought me flowers. But the amount of times he has bought chocolate home for me from the supermarket during a 10pm milk run? I've lost count.
Cleaning the kitchen EVERY evening after dinner (not even clean dishes left to air dry). That's love.
Vacuuming the house every weekend. That's love.
Putting a load of washing on before work, and waiting to hang it out. That's love.
Changing our bed sheets every Sunday morning. That's love.
Walking in the door after a long day at work and immediately tidying away the kids' toys. That's love.
Picking up fish and chips every Friday night on the way home from work so I can have a night off. That's love.
And he knows how much I love him. Because I tell him every day.
However you feel about love--whether it be the Hallmark kind or the real kind--the lovely Kate of Uberkate and Uberfine would like to make your V-Day a little sweeter.
Ruby feels she can wear my Uberfine Inner Heart better than I can..
Kate would like to share an Uberfine Inner Heart with one of my lovely readers. It could be you! Just leave me a comment answering the same question my smalls did - What is Love?
This giveaway will be short and sweet. Winner will be drawn Friday evening, 14 February. Best answer wins!

back to school / a giveaway!
It's that time again.. back to school!
Officially, we are still on holidays. We have some meet the teachers appointments and a little kindy orientation on the calendar later this week, but we are DEFINITELY still in holiday mode around here. And I am soaking it all up! Until Monday..
Aside from contacting a pile of school books--the joys, really-- we are all set to go with new shoes, lunch boxes, drink bottles. And then the lovely folk at stuck on you sent over a personalised backpack for Eliot to trot around with. He thinks he's the ants' pants!
He and I are being kindergarten snobs this year. The first of our three. While he is old enough to go to three year old class, you just don't get much bang for your buck these days. A very different story from when Missy had her turn. With our biggest boy at four year old kindy this year, a very large 15 HOUR window has opened up for the just the two of us. JUST THE TWO OF US. I have no idea what it is like to have only one child follow you around. I have forgotten..!
Our routine is about to get a huge shuffle. This is new territory--but I think I am going to like it. We'll be doing a weekly music and craft class to have the contact and mingling with other smalls that he would get from kindy, plus the extra time (and money saved) also allows us the freedom for outings on the other two days we will be together. He's done so much growing over the summer, I can't quite believe how far he has come.
He is sufficiently chuffed with his new backpack and stuck on you want to share the love. If you've been a little slack on the labelling front, or you think you can get away with stuffing last year's lunch boxes into this year's school bags.. then this one's for you. They have truckloads of great stuff to choose from so head over to their website to check it all out. All you have to do is watch this little video to be in the running. Too easy!

giveaway.. my first giveaway!
A little while ago I had this wonderfully kind woman email me about some of Missy's drawings. This one in particular.
She offered to create an appliqued version of Ruby's illustration of the husband. It's fabulous and Ruby was genuinely shocked and impressed, in equal measure, when she saw her creation had come to life off the paper. I am sure the husband only wishes he was as thin as his daughter likes to sketch him.
Being the generous lady she is, Rhi would like to offer one of my lovely readers the very same thing. You may remember Rhi and her beautiful work from posts over at BabyMac. I remembered her instantly - along with Graeme and Barry. Classics, really. Rhi is an Aussie mama with three smalls of her own, currently living in Belgium for a while after she fell in love and married a Belgian. You can see more of her talent at her Etsy store and Facebook page. She also sells through Down That Little Lane.
The lucky winner will receive their choice of either a small framed applique, or an A4 sized unframed applique. Drawings need to be simple and uncomplicated - no big family portraits! Rhi will post anywhere in the world between Belgium and Australia.
Make sure you have a lovely look around Rhi's online spaces. While you're lurking around Facebook, be sure to show Rhi some love, and you may as well extend your lurking over here. You could even LIKE me. If you feel that way inclined, of course.
Leave your name and email address in the comments, along with how fabulous you think Rhi is for generously offering up her crafty hands to please my beautiful readers. I'll draw and announce a winner, one week from today. Go!

free tickets?
Earlier this week, the lovely {and heavily pregnant} Anna of Hey Bubbles passed two free tickets my way, to Better Homes & Gardens LIVE which is on in Melbourne this weekend. It will be a family day out for us tomorrow which I am quite looking forward to. I am sure there will be air con. There better be.
Anna had a couple of tickets left over which she kindly sent me late last night. If you live in Melbourne and feel like a morning/afternoon/whole day out tomorrow, I would love to send them your way. Leave a comment including your email address, first in best dressed. They are e-tickets, so you will need to have access to a printer to print your tickets to take with you for entry.
Thanks Anna! Looking forward to hearing the wonderful news when Matilda and Polly's baby sister is ready to arrive into the world x
