the quilt

And I use the term lightly. I do not know how to quilt properly. I start with a general plan and then make it up as I go along. I don't like measuring too much and I usually use my eye to know where to cut. I have watched quilting tutorials and filed it in the too time consuming basket. I think so highly of those serious, professional quilters! Maybe when the kids are older and I will have more time to sew, I will learn to do it properly. Though I quite like my wonky, hodge podge quilts my machine spits out.

Bub was just bub, gender unknown. Oh the guessing! I just love the surprise. I mean, it can only be one of two things.. but still, when my OB announced each time 'it's a..', the feeling that followed is indescribable. So a quilt for bub meant gender neutral, which is always quite the challenge. I like a challenge. I thought my sister was having a boy so perhaps looking at it now, my colour choices lent more toward a boy.. but then if she'd had a girl perhaps I would feel the same? There were a few little patches of pink and grey amongst the big colours, even if bub would be a boy - which he is - he would be strong enough to snuggle under a little pink. I have seen his dad wear pink after all.

You cannot go past a wonderful Dr Seuss rhyme or inspirational quote. I am sewing some into little lap quilts at the moment (x3 means they are now going to be post Christmas holiday gifts.. stitching by the pool sounds good to me). I used Kirsty's stem stitch, my favourite. I should take the time to trace and try new fonts, but I always end up freehanding it. Cause I'm lazy like that. The kids made a little something to go with the quilt. But their masterpiece needs a post all of its own.

Hope this keeps you warm, my darling nephew! xo

*All photos taken either at midnight while sewing or three minutes before running out the door to head to the airport post baby shower.. which of course is THE best time to photograph your masterpiece you spent hours on..
