the nursery

I'm not really sure where to start with this one. I am still processing everything I learnt, and unlearnt, on Saturday. I knew when Tim announced he was beginning The Nursery, that I wanted to be a part of it. After chatting with him about photography during our family shoot, I could tell how much information was there. Obviously his photos tell you this, but to hear him speak so passionately about photography - or rather, his emotional attachment to photography - is something else. He is very easy to listen to. And to hear Kesh tell us in person about how he followed that passion and finally came to own the title of photographer, was far more raw than just reading it.

Tim gives you all of him. His attention, his ears, his knowledge. He openly tells you all he knows, and how he came to know it. He even gave us his beautiful sister for our live shoot.

It was an all female affair for our workshop. I made some new friends including this beautiful girl, Milena. I knew through the lens she would shine. She photographs beautifully.

My favourite shots of the day belong to Felicia.

I took a lot away from the workshop. At some point, parts of this newfound knowledge became unsettling, and I am not quite sure why. I felt off while on the live shoot, thinking more about numbers and composition than I normally would. I never think about that stuff. I just shoot. Halfway through the shoot I seemed to shake the mental fog and get some good stuff. I have been shooting manually for six months and figured it out by myself. Not perfectly, no. Making lots of mistakes to try and understand the process better, but never really understanding it. Now I understand it. Thankyou Tim.

Thankyou to Kirsty for opening your beautiful home to the dozens, for your wonderful hospitality and of course, your sumptuous cooking x

  2. Gosh Tahnee these are beautiful! I've also been shooting manual for a few months and have been stumbling along learning by myself. Maybe when Tim comes to England I'll need to book myself a place if this is the result - amazing! x

  5. So cool Tahnee! I especially love the ones of Rachel in the trees being framed. And I couldn't agree more about Milena, so naturally beautiful. There is so much to be grateful to Tim and his generosity with his knowledge. I look forward to the day when all the dialing and numbers come a lot more naturally.

  7. Beautiful summary of your day, thanks for sharing! I completely understand the "processing" thing, I'm hoping to sit down, look through my images and do some blog processing to help it sink in. What a truly awesome workshop! Pleasure to meet you, too! Xx

  8. Wow, what wonderful images. I so need to ditch the training wheels and learn to use my manual settings, especially after seeing other posts on The Nursery :)
