snap it {new}

We have a three legged horse. Three and a half if we're talking specifics. No need to call the RSPCA. He doesn't live in the backyard. Just the farm animal basket. I admit, conditions aren't great but hey, he's got a roof over his head. His amputation happened quite a long time ago. Poor guy. I performed impressive surgery - he was four legged again for a while - but then another accident meant we had to accept the realisation that he would be forever different from the others.  Poor horsey has copped it from Middle lately about not being a very good horse. A horse should be able to stand up, people!

So today, we remedied our lame horse situation. Old Three Legs got to have a rest in the farm basket while we went out to buy two newbies. A stallion and a mare. And an elephant. He can live in the safari animal basket.

After our purchases we had another date with our doctor. When asked about his new horse, Middle proudly flipped Cole (yes, that's what he's named the horse.. original, no?) upside down and told doc that it was a boy horse because it had a wiwwy and a bottom!

The {new} GG's haven't left their owners' sides. Turning in for the night in the cramped farm animal basket with old Three Legs? No, no. It's all king singles and egyptian cotton flannie sheets, baby. I suspect it will be a while before they are relegated to basket conditions.

Check out what else is {new} this week, over at Sarah's.

*The detail on those Schleich animals is ridiculous.
** Look at those tiny horse shoes!
***Necessary to take so many pics of plastic animals? Meh

52 weeks of grateful :: 24 hour clinic

He had a rough weekend. Not that you can tell here. Two lots of antibiotics and nurofen will do that to you. The weekend saw us making two evening trips to the 24 hour clinic. Friday night for croup, Sunday night for an ear infection. He's probably been the healthiest of the three, this winter. Well, Winter, you really made up for that. You bastard.

Despite the bastardness the remnants of winter left for us, we were able to obtain medical assistance quickly and easily. We live a short drive from a 24 hour clinic that I have frequented a good handful of times in the wee hours with the smalls, seeking diagnosis - and drugs - to try and ease their ailments. Sure, I have never seen the same doctor twice, and I am not as comfortable taking their advice as opposed to our regular, trusted GP, but in the middle of the night when you have a screaming, inconsolable child in your arms, I am forever grateful for the all-night-working doctors, their comfortable seating, multiple plasma screens to keep tired mamas awake, and of course their all night pharmacy.

Last night I came home with my boy sound asleep. Filled with panadol and nurofen. One alone was not enough to stop the pain. He laid on my lap while I put the antibiotic drops in his sore ear, and there he slept while, coincidentally, I watched how lucky we are to have access to health care the way that we do. Grateful I am not American. Grateful I live in this lucky country. Grateful my boy was no longer in pain.

weekend love

Forced to take a quiet weekend at home. That last winter weekend really made its presence felt. Hello croup and nasty ear infection for my sweet Middle. Good riddance, winter.

I hope your weekend was warmer, and cough-free x
